LEAGUE STRUCTURE

The HBCU Basketball Association is a summer-based, competitive league featuring independently owned teams that represent the culture, pride, and excellence of HBCUs.

Our season runs throughout the summer months, creating a consistent, high-energy platform for athletes to compete, gain exposure, and stay active during a time when opportunities are often limited.

League Highlights:

• High-level 5v5 competition
• Tournament-style format + showcase games
• HBCU-inspired teams, branding, and experiences
• All-Star events & player recognition
• Community activations (youth camps, vendor markets, fan engagement)
• Live entertainment reflecting HBCU culture (music, dance, energy)

WHY THIS MATTERS

We are intentionally building this league to break down financial and access barriers that have historically limited opportunities in sports.

For Team Owners

We provide an affordable entry point into sports ownership—creating space for young leaders, former athletes, and community visionaries to build and lead their own teams without overwhelming financial burden.

For Athletes

We create opportunities to compete, gain exposure, and stay visible—without the high costs often associated with showcases, travel teams, and pay-to-play systems.

For Communities
We bring high-quality, culturally rich sporting events directly to the community—offering affordable (and in many cases free) access to entertainment, youth engagement, and economic opportunities through vendors and partnerships.

OUR INTENTION

Each team is built with purpose—bringing together talent, leadership, and a commitment to community impact.

This league exists to:

• Open doors that were once closed
• Create access where there were barriers
• Build something that belongs to the culture and the community

Because this isn’t just about who wins the game…

It’s about who gets the opportunity to play, to lead, and to be seen.
